Matar Paneer is a popular Indian vegetarian dish made with paneer (Indian cottage cheese) and green peas. Here's a recipe to make it at home:
Ingredients:
- 200g paneer, cubed
- 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2-3 green chillies, chopped (optional)
- 2 large tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions:
Heat oil or ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
Add minced garlic, grated ginger and chopped green chillies (if using) and sauté for a minute.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder and red chilli powder (if using) and sauté for a few seconds.
Add green peas and salt to the pan and mix well. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the peas are tender.
Add cubed paneer to the pan and mix gently. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add garam masala powder and mix well.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with roti, naan or rice.
Note: You can adjust the spice levels according to your taste. Also, you can add a pinch of sugar to balance the flavours if you prefer.
